Benefits of Argan Oil for Frizzy Hair

It is safe to say that frizzy hair can get in the way of a good hair day. Spending time styling your hair and getting it perfect only to have frizz ruin it by midday can be extremely frustrating. Those living in humid climates especially know the struggle. However, there is a product that is perfect to tame your frizzy hair and manage those pesky flyaways.

Argan oil, both in pure oil form or mixed into products, has become a huge asset to women across the globe. Famed for its versatility, you’ll find that argan oil is the easiest way to care for and manage your hair naturally.

What is Argan Oil?

Argan has a very lengthy and unique history. Found only in Morocco’s forests, the argan tree’s fruit have been harvested for centuries as part of Moroccan women’s hair care routines. The fruit is opened, and the nut is extracted and pressed to release pure argan oil. Not only has it been a staple in Morocco, but its reputation as one of the most powerful natural oils has made it extremely coveted in the beauty industry. But what makes Argan so special?

This miracle oil is extremely powerful when it comes to hair care. The power is all in the ingredients. Argan is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help encourage health and hydration. Two compounds in particular have the greatest effect: Omega-6 and Vitamin E. Both on their own are incredibly adept at hydration and shine. When combined, they promote healthy, beautiful hair.

What Causes Frizzy Hair?

Frizzy hair occurs when moisture passes through the cuticle layer, which is the outer layer of hair that protects the innermost layer of your hair. When your hair is dry and lacks moisture, the cuticle becomes rough. Once there is moisture in the air, the outer layer of hair takes in that moisture, causing hair to swell and frizz. Hence, why humidity is known as one of the top causes of frizzy hair.

However, frizz is not universal. Your hair can be frizzy at the roots, the ends, and everything between. Frizz is caused by the combination of the health and condition of the hair mixed with environmental factors, such as dry winter weather and humid summers, and how the hair is cared for. How you care for your hair can be a huge factor in the appearance and health of your hair.

Damaged and dry hair is porous, meaning it will soak up a lot of water. Do you use hot styling tools? Turn down that heat! If your styling tools are at too high of a temperature, they can dry out and damage your hair.

Speaking of high temperatures, washing your hair with too hot of water can lead to issues with managing your hair. While hot showers can be relaxing, the hot water dries out your scalp and raises the hair cuticles, which causes hair to frizz. Additionally, over-shampooing your hair can cause frizz. Sometimes shampoo can clean dry and damaged hair almost too well —  this can open the cuticles, making them prone to moisture.

Another cause of frizzy hair is dying the color of your hair. When you dye your hair, your hair texture possibly could change as well. This is especially true if you bleach your hair. There are ingredients in hair dye that have drying effects, weakening your hair.

In some cases, frizz is just simply out of our control. Curly hair especially is easily affected by humidity because it is more porous compared to straight hair. When there is excess moisture in the hair, curl patterns can be lost, which can cause hair to be frizzy.

Other ways frizz can be created include towel-drying your hair, using products with sulfates and alcohol, and touching your hair too much. The list could go on.

Why Argan Oil is Good For Frizzy Hair

Argan oil is known as “liquid gold” among Hollywood’s best hairstylists, and for obvious reasons. The benefits of Argan for hair are expansive. It keeps your hair smooth and healthy, while also strengthening the hair and encouraging growth. If you struggle with frustrating, frizzy hair then argan oil should be a staple in your hair care collection.

The majority of hair problems are due to a lack of moisture and hydration. Argan oil can help you increase shine in your hair while keeping frizz to a minimum. The vitamin E in Argan oil is a powerhouse, taming and smoothing frizz by flattening the cuticle layer of hair weightlessly. Argan oil combats the main source of frizzy hair by locking moisture in.

If you have hair extensions, argan oil can even help you maintain the look of your hair extensions. Using certain styling products and tools can put wear and tear on your extension, affecting the overall look of them. Since argan oil smooths hair strands, the overall dryness and frizziness are reduced, making your hair extensions more manageable.

How To Apply Argan Oil to Control Frizzy Hair

So, you’re ready to incorporate argan oil into your daily routine. Never fear, it’s extremely simple. Use it on damp, towel-dried hair to minimize damage and make it look smoother overall. Still have some pesky flyaways after styling your hair? Argan oil can be an easy fix for those frustrating hairs, too!
